DO YOU REMEMBER THESE

(Press DO YOU REMEMBER THESE for link to video)

IT WOULD BE MORE FUN
TO GO BY AIR
BUT WE CAN'T HANG
THESE SIGNS UP THERE
BURMA SHAVE

Do you remember signs like the above.......If so you will enjoy the above link to a cute little ditty with music and showing some of the old signs.

When I was a kid checking for Burma Shave Signs was a game we played as we rode along in the back seat of the car. We would try to see who would be the first to find one, then keep count as to how many signs we had read during our trip. Those were the days..

No doubt this site will bring back memories for many reading my Blog.

A WALK THROUGH MEADOWBROOK

We had sunshine in Illinois yesterday so it was a great day, even though cold and a bit windy, to take a walk at MeadowBrook Park. It is a lovely park in Southeast Urbana. There are trails, sidewalks, sculptures, many trees, squirrels and sometimes one sees deer.

One sees both young and old.....from stroller to those with a cane....all enjoying the fresh air and scenery. In the Spring the Park Districk plants many flowers and they have some lovely color all around the old buildings. They also have an herb garden. There are picnic tables, and a covered shelter so many have picnics and that will be happening as soon as the snow has melted and weather has warmed. Also in the Spring the Park District sponsors their Strawberry Festival. They serve ice cream, covered with fresh strawberries, have different bands playing and make it a very entertaining event. We are fortunate to have many nice parks and playgrounds here in Urbana.

THE ELLIS' 1998

This is a picture of the Ellis' in 1998. Left to Right...Mark and Joanie, Roger and Kathy and Olivia and Steve with Dale and I in the front row. At this time we were celebrating Dale's 79th Birthday. Mark and Joanie came from Ft. Bragg, CA, Roger and Kathy from here in St. Joseph, IL and Steve and Olivia arrived from Claremont, CA. (They are now living in Nellysford, VA.

A number of the Grandchildren were here and we had quite a celebration. Great to have the group so we could celebrate together.

THE ELLIS' 1965

That's Dale and me in back and Roger, Mark and Steve in the front.

I was a Stay At Home Mom for 14 years. I belonged to
PTA, Junior Service League, Printing Pressman's Auxiliary, and was a Cub Scout leader for 5 years. During this time I took lessons and started oil painting.

All our boys were interested in baseball and we attended
all their baseball games. In Little League they all played for the Coke team....and as time went on were playing with Babe Ruth and American Legion teams.

THE ELLIS FAMILY 1953

Dale and I met in high school in 1939. We married in 1943 in Storrs, Connecticut. He was in service and stationed at Storrs. From there he was tranferred to Fort Bragg for a short period of time then shipped to Camp White Oregon, near Medford. January 1944, I joined him there. In April he was transferred to Camp San Luis Obispo, CA. From there he was sent to the Pacific and fought in the Phillippines and was in the Invastion of Okinawa on Easter Sunday, 1945. A few months after World War ll ended, he received his discharge and returned home in January 1946.

Our son, Steven was born in1947, Mark, 1950 and Roger 1953.

ONE OF MY OIL PAINTINGS

FIELD OF DAISIES

I have painted several paintings similar to the above. One I sold in Florida art show, one at the Town and Country Art Show and I donated one to Vermilion House (where my Mother lived) for Mother's 100th birthday. I had it hung in the Activity Room where they would hold most of their social events.

It is an easy painting to live with and goes with most any decor. It was done with a limited palette which is usually very pleasing to the eye.

SNOW STORM

Quite a snow here in Illinois. I went to my exercise program about 9:15...it was cold but clear. When I came out at 11:00, snow had covered the car and all the windows had to be brushed clean. Streets were a little slick, but salt trucks had been out and spreading salt so the intersections were fairly clear. I was happy to get back to my nice, warm condo. Strange, but I was hungry so had some fruit and some tuna casserole.....now to sit back, check out computer and try to catch up on my recent magazines....

95th Birthday Party

A Friend's 95th Birthday

On Saturday I attended a great birthday party for a friend. She had her 95th birthday on Friday. Her two sons attended and several children and Grandchildren.

We met in 1946.....both lived at the Georgian Apartments on South Sixth. Our husbands had just returned from World War II.... Where has all the time gone...... She is a very young,
attractive 95.....Ten years older than me. As you can see by the picture....we were happy to still be able to spend time together...
